What is a Graphic Designer? Really.
This quote by Paul Rand perfectly describes what a REAL graphic designer does.
For self-promotion. Need a graphic designer?
COPY: The designer does not, as a rule, begin with a preconceived idea. His idea is the result of subjective and objective thought, and the design a product of the idea. In order, therefore, to achieve an honest and effective solution he necessarily passes thought some sort of mental process. Consciously or not, he analyzes, interprets, translates. He improvises, invents new techniques and combinations. He coordinates and integrates his material so that he may restate his problem in terms of ideas, pictures, forms, and shapes. He unifies, simplifies, eliminates superfluities. He symbolizes. abstract from his material by association and analogy. He intensifies and reinforces his symbol with appropriate accessories to achieve clarity and interest. He draws upon instinct and intuition. He considers the spectator, his feelings and predilections.

Web design study for Go Negosyo.
A local organization / TV show dedicated to promoting business and inspiring entrepreneurs in the Philippines.
The client wanted a more formal and organized layout than their current one. Design concept is based on a magazine-look to give the website a more lively and inspiring appeal.

I’m posting this constantly remind myself of what i should do to become a millionaire. Haha.
I went to the US Embassy here in Manila to apply for a new visa. It’s been 15 years since i last got one! I was a bit worried that they would just deny my application. A 21-year old fresh graduate, who just started working last May as graphic designer earning a 4-digit salary doesn’t seem to be the “safest” person to receive a non-immigrant visa. Yes, my salary is less than 10,000 pesos and no, i don’t have any plans of going TNT.
Anyway, at the interview window, the conversation went something like this:
Immigration Officer: I see you’re a Graphic Designer.
Me: Yes sir, i work in an advertising agency.
Immigration Officer: Do you use a Mac or a PC?
Me: Macs sir.
Me: I don’t like PCs.
Immigration: Good, I would’ve denied you a visa if you answered PC. Hehe.
He laughed jokingly. It turns out he was also a Graphic Designer back in the US — How cool is that?! We had a small chat about print design and color separation. He said i should visit the printers to learn more about the printing process. Cool guy, cool guy.
I got a 10-year US Visa.
Added a site map plug-in for wordpress that i got from Dagon Design. Also customized the permalinks for this site. Thanks to Crisel Eslao for helping me out!

Things i want to accomplish with this website:
Promote myself as an aspiring filipino graphic designer for web and print.
Attract prospective local freelance design clients.
Get on the radar of local advertising agencies and marketing departments of multinational companies.
I hope to achieve all this through SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Thanks to Aaron Roselo who gave me a pdf file of SEO BOOK and exposed me to the inspiring benefits of internet marketing. I’ve recently started studying how SEO works and applied some of the things i learned to this website.
SEO = Information Design + Marketing. It’s about designing information in a way that search engines can easily index your website. It’s a process of improving the chance of your “target market” actually finding your website on the internet. It’s basically pimping your website.
Imagine Ateneo without Beef Teriyaki.
No more chicken strips and mashed potato. No more beef teriyaki with rice and bean sprouts. No more Tang orange juice.
My favorite store (and probably the most popular in the caf) is now closed after a student found a mothball in his orange juice he bought from the said store. The world is now a sadder place. I’ll miss my 40-peso meal.
